Yoel Natan will play a mixed set of original songs and new music for liturgical Hebrew from 8:30pm to 9:15pm, Saturday, November 4, as part of the Pacific Northwest Jewist Arts Festival in Seattle's University District. Yoel Natan plays the Cafe Levine folk stage, amidst a talented lineup of local Jewish musicians. The Festival is only $5 cover for five hours of music, film, and performance art by young Jewish artists from Portland, Oregon to Vancouver, BC, on three concurrent stages!

Kabalat Shabbat Minyan in Gasworks Park, Seattle

Yoel Natan will lead a musical, participatory Kabbalat Shabbat service in Gasworks Park in Seattle, Friday August 11 at 7:30.

We will sing together many sweet and spirited melodies of celebration to welcome the Sabbath, including Carlebach melodies and previews of Yoel Natan's NewSach. Some will be familiar and some may be completely new -- so if you love a good Carlebach minyan then be ready to sing along to your favorites, and if you've never been to a musical Kabbalat Shabbat before don't fear: you won't be the only one getting to learn a few new tunes!

The service will be followed by a vegetarian/dairy potluck.

Yoel Natan returns to the Emerald City

I have moved back to Seattle after a two-year stint in Vancouver, BC, and as I settle in, I am considering the future of NewSach!. Stay tuned for announcements this spring and summer, as I work with my Seattle friends to determine a new venue for the project.

NewSach! is moving to Seattle!

In addition to more folk-pop songs in English, I am currently writing new musical settings for the traditional Hebrew liturgy for Friday night (Kabbalat Shabbat, Maariv, and Shabbat dinner). Drawn from influences from R' Shlomo Carlebach to contemporary art-music, folk, rock, and whatever else is kicking around in my head, these new melodies and arrangements are aimed at making a fresh, participatory, rhythmically and tunefully inspirational worship experience in a traditionally-oriented synagogue.

Any and all are welcome to join our community in prayer and song! Just bring your ruach (spirit!) and willingness to learn some new tunes.

Joel Rothschild will be our special musical guest at the next Evening of Jewish Chant on Sunday, Oct. 30. Joel is a Vancouver-based musician and composer who has released a CD of original music. He
will be bringing us his own beautiful melodies for Kabbalat Shabbat, which welcomes in the Sabbath.

As usual, we will be gathering Sunday at Sourcepoint, 3263 Heather St., from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission is $5.
